Emergency Medical Services
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a critical function of North Washington Fire Department. Over 80% of all 911 calls are medically related. NWFD provides emergency response with cross-trained firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). The firefighter (FF)/EMTs medical certification level varies from EMT-Basic (EMT-B), or EMT-Paramedic (EMT-P). NWFD provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) to every 911 response within our district. The response could be on any number of apparatus; from the ladder truck, the heavy rescue, one of three fire engines, or one of our three ambulances. All apparatus are manned with a minimum of two
FF/EMT-B’s. All have cardiac defibrillation capabilities through the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The ALS transport units are staffed at a minimum with a FF/EMTB and a Paramedic/FF. An outside third party vendor provides our billing for ambulance patient transport charges.
